Who we are:

Secondary Special Education and Transition (SSET) is a multidisciplinary research unit dedicated to developing scientific understanding of youth and young adults experiencing disability. SSET faculty conduct research and technical assistance and outreach activities to develop and implement evidence- and research-based services that assist transition-age youth in developing knowledge and skills to succeed in employment, postsecondary education or training, and living independently in the community.

What we do:

  • Provide technical assistance and professional development to families, state and local education agencies, community service agencies, and policy makers to support:
    • strategic planning, coordination, and implementation for transition-age youth programming at state and local levels;
    • Part D, Indicator 14 collection, analyses, and data use at state and local levels
    • juvenile justice re-entry transition programs and services;
    • workforce readiness for individuals with disabilities;
    • transition related data collection, reporting, and use at state and local levels;
    • transition program development for individuals experiencing disability.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate collaborative transition services across agencies (e.g., VR, schools, CTE, juvenile services) that support youths’ successful movement from adolescence to adulthood
  • Apply rigorous research methods to the study of secondary- and post-transition services and outcomes for youth experiencing disabilities
  • Utilize stakeholder input throughout all practices.
